Kokopelli Cafe

Type: Bar and Restaurant

Name: Kokopelli Cafe

My experience:
Byron and I have eaten here a number of times, and typically always have a good experience. It’s not perfect, but it sure does have its charms. It’s right next to the movie theater, so it is a good place for the typical date night “dinner and a movie” (though it isn’t the most romantic place on earth) and it is also right next to the only gym on the island and cost-u-less (the place we normally shop at, a big box store).  The inside is surprisingly nice and has a homey cafe feel. It is definitely more of a local hang out, but here and there a tourist finds themselves wondering in. The last time we went, a few days ago, they did a few updates. They gave one of the walls a dark brown color, and made the place a little more classy looking, it was nice. And they also got new menus... HUGE menus.

They also have life musical performances, not every night, but occasionally. They play nice music you can have a good dinner to, and they place it at a good volume so you can still hear whoever is at your table. Whenever we go out to Kokopellis, we normally see huge families coming in, it is a big family place. Anyway, let’s move onto the food! I’ve had their (cheeseless) pizza, and I really enjoyed it except I chose the tortilla crust, when I should have went with thicker crust. Byron loved the super thin crust though, so it really is up to you. I’ve had their wraps too, and a few other things. I’ve always liked the food there. So there you have it, Kokopelli cafe. Recently updated, family place that’s right next to the movies for a decent price!

Kokopelli Cafe is MOST compatible with:
-The Social Butterfly
-The Adventurer (for tourists because it isn’t like all the touristy restaurants)
-The Family

Kokopelli Cafe is NOT compatible with:
-The Introvert
-The Relaxed
-The Wild Child

The price range of Kokopelli Cafe is in the Goldy Locks Zone

Shipwreck Tavern

Type: Bar and Restaurant

Name: Shipwreck Tavern

My experience:
This is one of the first places Byron and I went out to eat on the island. It is in a good location, in Haven Sight, and it also is perfect for people who love pirates, drinks, and sports. The decor has mannequin pirates (which scare the living hell out of you when you’re least expecting it and you WILL think they are real), the tables have sand and gold varnished into them, and tons of other nautical themed items scattered throughout. Along side all of that, there are NFL football flags lining the walls as well, and huge TVs hanging on every wall space that is available. They tend to play sports, and not all the TVs are on the same channel; some play the news (which I like). The first time we went, we went with a group of friends, and being the 19 year old that I was at the time (legal to drink for the first time), I ordered 2 frozen drinks and 2 “skittle shots”. They weren’t that strong, but they sure were tasty, and I had a good buzz for that nights volleyball game. Anyway, the next time we came, we were officially living on the island, and this time, I wanted to eat and not drink. I had a grilled chicken (like usual) and it was very good and filled me up to the point where we were ready to go home and collapse into a food coma (and that’s what I wanted). Recently we went there again with our friend Alyssa. It was a Sunday night, typically would be a slow night, but there was a huge stateside corporate group that decided it would be a good night to dine with pirates and sports. Our poor waitress was working her butt off to serve all the unexpected guests (obviously they weren’t going to have a lot of people working a Sunday night, so they were a little understaffed), but she apologized and stayed professional, which I give her a lot of props for (and tips)! Also, they recently switched management, so they have a whole new look to the menu, but have everyone’s favorite dishes. All in all, I’ve always had a good time there, it’s a silly/fun atmosphere and a good place to go with a few friends that isn’t too expensive.

Shipwreck Tavern is MOST compatible with:
-The Professional (They were able to cater to the corporate group and did a great job)
-The Social Butterfly
-The Stereotypical Tourist
-The Family

Shipwreck Tavern is NOT compatible with:
-The Introvert
-The Relaxed
-The Cultural (it reminds me a lot of a stateside bar, with lots of pirates)

The price range of Shipwreck Tavern is in the Goldy Locks Zone

Senor Frogs

Type: Bar and Restaurant

Name: Senor Frogs

My experience:
Wow, where do I start with Senor Frogs... How about this. It was a long day at work for both Byron and I, and he picked me up and neither of us were in the mood to cook dinner. We figured, let’s try Senor Frogs, it’s not that far away and we heard it was pretty good. Well the day we went, there were a few cruise ships in and even though we went around 5, we still got the tail end of the crowd. Anyway, we arrive after much walking around trying to find the place (it ended up being literally right where the cruise ships dock), we walk up and waited to get seated. The best way to describe the ambiance of the place was ‘drunken party scene’ or ‘a place where mom and dad can get wasted and take embarrassing photos that they hide from their coworkers’. They seat us next to the speakers that played music that was so loud it would make your ears bleed and even would have Aerosmith asking to “turn it down a notch”. Later, the waitress came up to the table asking us what we would like to drink, as usual. And, being myself, I’m not much of a drinker, so I asked for water, and the waitress looked confused. Her facial expression was kind of like if I were to walk into a crack house and demand vitamins; she was bewildered. While waiting for our food, there were congo lines, trivia games over the intercom, prizes being won and much much more going on. Needless to say, we were not participating in any of the events that evening. After eating, and to be honest, I can’t remember if the food was good or not, the waitress awkwardly asked if we were finished and if I was sure I didn’t want a drink (again the answer was no). I couldn’t exactly hear what she was saying, but there was something weird about paying (I think she was scared we were going to dine and ditch?), so it took extra long. Over all, it’s one of those places you need to go to when you’re drunk, planning on getting drunk, or on vacation ready to “cut loose”, in that case, you would LOVE this place. Unfortunately, I went on a day where I was none of those things, matter of fact, the opposite of those things. I wanted a place to enjoy my food, talk to my loving boyfriend in peace, and relax after a long day at work, not being harassed because I don’t want to drink and leaving me temporarily deaf for the rest of the night.

Senor Frogs is MOST compatible with:

-The Social Butterfly
-The Stereotypical Tourist

Senor Frogs is NOT compatible with:

Molly Molone's

Type: Bar and Restaurant

Name: Molly Molone's

My experience:
The first time we ate there, it was Valentines day, and Byron wanted to take me out to a nice breakfast, and that’s what it ended up being. It was a nice vibe, Irish themed with a mix of Caribbean (so they had a unique style), located in Red Hook. There were shamrocks and fish nets hanging on the walls, two things you think would clash, but they set them up nicely together where you wouldn’t even think about questioning it. The service was great, our waitresses every time were very sweet, and the food was delicious. I’ve never had anything besides their breakfast, but I can tell you that their breakfast is definitely amazing. It’s a good place to take the kids, or come with a group of your friends and has a mix between locals and tourists. In the end, if you want a good breakfast in St.thomas, you shouldn’t skip Molly Molone’s!

Molly Molone’s is MOST compatible with:
-The Family
-The Relaxed
-The Honeymooners

Molly Molone’s is NOT compatible with:
-The Professional
-The Introvert

Sib's

Type: Bar and Restaurant

Name: Sib’s

My experience:
Sib’s is one of Byron and I’s hang out after work. We go there to get some good food, for a good price, fast. It has been on the island for a while,(1924) and will be staying for hopefully much longer. It is tucked away in the north side and has plenty of parking available (unlike a lot of places around here). It’s a short drive from town, but far enough where you feel more secluded from the city. Every time we have sat ourselves and we typically have the same waitress every time. She is very nice and always greets us with a smile. We always sit outside, even though there is an inside, but fresh air is nice. Once you place your order, it is not even a 20 minute wait! It is the fastest kitchen on the island and not only that, and the food is actually good too. I’d say more locals come here than tourists, but it is still a good mix of people! Overall, it is a great place to go to grab a bite to eat and hang out with some friends that won’t have you spending all your money!

Sib’s is MOST compatible with:
-The Professional (I’ve seen co workers come here to chat about work during the day)
-The Relaxed
-The Social Butterfly (more if you sit inside)

Sib’s is NOT compatible with:
-The Adventurer
-The Perfectionist
-The Hipster

The price range of Sib’s is in the Penny Pincher Zone

Da Lime In Da Coconut

Type: Bar

Name: Da Lime in Da Coconut

My experience:
Alright, I’m going to try to be the most non-bias as I can right now. This is where I work, along with at the zipline (the zipline owns the bar). I can honestly say the frozen drinks here are really good. They are blended to perfection every time because a machine pours out the ingredients in perfect proportions. This bar is a Caribbean rum bar, but there are also some other kinds of drinks too. The signature drink is Da Lime in Da Coconut and it has 3 different shots of cruzan, a squeeze of lime and real coconut water served inside of a coconut! Anyway, it is a nice place to hang out! It is in a safe part of town, Yacht Haven, in a good location when you are in the middle of shopping, need to drink before you want to go out to eat, or if you are a cruise ship guest, it is right by the more popular cruise ship dock. There are tons of little tiki bar decorations, always Caribbean music playing (Bob Marley Pandora station) and the service is awesome! (lol) There are either seats around the bar, or if you want to make it a bit more personal with just you and your friends, we have tables that you can sit around away from the bar. There is a good mix between locals and tourists, and typically everyone ends up talking to one another. It’s a nice place to start your day off, or rewind when it’s coming to an end. (not to mention, free wifi!)

Iggies

Type: Bar and Restaurant

Name: Iggies

My experience:
Byron recently got a new job as the beach manager at Bolongo Bay Beach Resort. On this resort, there is a restaurant called Iggies and neither of us have eaten there. We have been in the area a few times because they hold mini sporting events for locals to sign up for and do some friendly competition (dodge ball, volleyball, softball, etc). We first show up and it is right up against the beach, a lovely view, and the place was full of a mix between tourists and locals. The vibe was nice, nothing fancy, but had a bit of a  rugged pirate look to it with an elegant twist. Anyway, we tried a few of the drinks, we had people buying us drinks, so we had a bit more than we usually do. The drinks I had were well done and tasty. They also filled me up so I wasn’t terribly hungry when my meal got out to me. The food was decent, not the best I’ve had on the island, but it sure did hit the spot. It seemed like a little community there, a lot of people knew each other from staying at the resort, or the locals picked this place as their hang out, but it was nice to see a lot of people talking to everyone around them, and not sticking with just their table. Over all it was a good experience and I definitely see myself going there again in the future.

Iggies most compatible with:
-The Social Butterfly
-The Wild Child
-The The Stereotypical Tourist

Iggies least compatible with:
-The Relaxed
-The Introvert
-The Professional
